Bio-Mass Star Academy

A first-of-its-kind (for South Dakota) environmentally sensitive wood chip “Bio Mass” boiler facility for the South Dakota Office of the State Engineer at the Star Academy Juvenile Corrections Center near Custer, South Dakota. This secondary boiler supplements the main facility boiler and is fueled with renewable dead-fall local trees of the Black Hills National Forest, which is harvested/gathered by the youths housed at the academy. This system is to become a prototype for other state facilities to conserve energy and resources.
